Bin collections

Bin crews have gone out this morning (Wednesday 20 January) and are continuing to work in the snow and are hoping to complete the rounds planned for today.  If road conditions deteriorate, then we will give further updates.

This week all households in the borough are having both refuse and recycling collections on their normal collection day.

So remember to put both your grey and green bins out on your normal collection day, regardless of whether it would normally be your recycling collection week.

Keeping the roads clear is particularly crucial at this time in order for salting lorries to be able to travel the network and salt the roads without delay.

Gritting of roads and snow clearance

In most circumstances, responsibility of the gritting of roads and footpaths rests with
Hampshire County Council (the Highway Authority). The following county council webpages
set out their responsibilities and how they prioritise roads for gritting:

Hampshire County Council priorities for winter maintenance treatments

All enquiries in relation to winter maintenance should directed to Hampshire County Council's Highways team
via 0845 603 5633 or hampshirehighway.north@hants.gov.uk.

Please be aware that the borough council assists the County Council wherever possible by targeting the following areas for gritting:

      • Footways in/around the town centre, local centres and leading to/from elderly/disabled people’s accommodation.
      • Borough owned town centre car parks.
      • The civic campus.
      • Other facilities (such as Worting Road Cemetery, the Leisure Park and council owned business parks).
