The Demographic Future of Hampshire (July 2007)
The Demographic Future of Hampshire report deals with the likely size and characteristics of the population of Hampshire and the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton and the effects of expected changes. The report brings together a wealth of demographic data both nationally and locally with the aim of providing a picture of past and current demographic trends. As well as setting out the overall picture for Hampshire, differences between the districts are explored along with national trends and some international trends.
The report first considers those factors that directly affect population change (fertility, mortality and migration). It then deals with ethnicity, marital status, age distribution and household composition: factors that generally influence trends in fertility, mortality and migration but that in turn are also affected by them. All these trends are subsequently linked together to assess the future demography of Hampshire.
