Accommodation and Tenure

Information is provided on numbers of various categories of dwellings, households and rooms in each parish. This includes information on the numbers of occupied and vacant dwellings, second homes, a count of household spaces according to the property type (detatched, semi detached and terraced, flat, maisonnette or caravan), amenities and tenure type.   

There are three tables giving data on Accommodation and Tenure. They are listed as ACCOMMODATION SPACES, ACCOMMODATION TOTALS and AMENITIES AND TENURE TYPE. 

There are footnotes below from the Office for National Statistics to assist with use and interpretation of these tables.  

ACCOMMODATION SPACES will give information on:-                                       

  • The total number of all dwellings
  • Household spaces with residents
  • Household spaces vacant
  • Second home/holiday accommodation
  • Household spaces in detached house or bungalows
  • Household spaces in semi-detached, or terraced, houses or bungalows
  • Household spaces in flats, maisonettes, apartments and caravans 

ACCOMMODATION TOTALS will give information on:-

  • Average household size
  • Average number of rooms per household and
  • Occupancy rating

AMENITIES AND TENURE TYPE will give information on:-

  • Households with central heating, and sole use of bath, shower and toilet
  • Households with the lowest floor level above ground
  • Owner-occupied households
  • Households rented from Local Authority, Housing Association or Registered Social Landlord 
  • Households rented from a private landlord or letting agency

Notes:

Cells in these tables have been randomly adjusted to avoid the release of confidential data.

 Footnotes: (1) This is equal to the number of households. (2) The occupancy rating provides a measure of under-occupancy and overcrowding. For example a value of -1 implies that there is one room too few and that there is overcrowding in the household. The occupancy rating assumes that every household, including one person households, requires a minimum of two common rooms (excluding bathrooms). (3) Includes shared ownership (paying part rent and mortgage). (4) Includes rented from employer of a household member and relative or friend of a household member and living rent free.
