Supporting the borough’s economy

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council set up the first local authority backed venture capital fund of its kind to help innovative young businesses start up and grow.

The Innovation Centre was the next step, set up following research and development with SEEDA that identified there was a local demand for incubator start-up facilities which have proven to have a significant impact on company survival rates.

The centre encourages enterprise and strengthens the economic future of the borough, providing employment and development opportunities to people in the region.

In the longer term it is the council’s aim to bring educational colleges and universities together with businesses to create a ‘Learning Campus’ where innovation and learning can prosper and academic achievement raised.
