Community facilities - Chineham

Approximately £800,000 of developer contributions have been secured by the council to provide community facilities within the ward. Some of this funding has already been used to:

  • extend the village hall;
  • provide allotments to the rear of Ajax Close;
  • create the Chineham Community games area; and,
  • extend Chineham Scout and Community Hall, located off Hanmore Road.

Funding has also been allocated to improve the skate & BMX park at Tollhouse Meadow and the community ball games area within the grounds of Four Lanes Community Junior School. The following links provide more details about these two projects in particular:

The council has been working with Chineham Parish Council to identify the community's recreational needs and highlight where shortfalls exist so that the remaining funding (totalling approximately £470,000) can be allocated to further projects. This work has resulted in the development of the parish council's Recreation Strategy, which identifies various projects for investigation, including:

  • Skate park
  • Ball games area
  • Jogging / Fitness trail
  • Outdoor gym facility
  • Chineham Community Games area - additional features / equipment
  • Footway link (through woodland from footbridge to Chineham Community Games area)
  • Tollhouse Meadow: improvements to un-surfaced footways
  • Chineham Nature Trail: interpretation boards

Discussions are also ongoing with the councillors and parish council to determine how best to take forward these projects.
