Guidance, Grants and Progress

Basingstoke and Deane Council supports and encourages communities to produce community plans in both rural parishes  and in urban areas around Basingstoke.  The Community Planning Officer in the Neighbourhood Development Unit can help and guide you.

It is important to use this support so that you can tap into best practice and produce a robust and credible plan.  The guidance of an experienced Community Planning Officer is advisable to lead you through what can be a long and demanding process.

In a parished area the process is usually started by the Parish Council.  In urban areas resident groups can work with their local Councillors and the Community Team at BDBC to develop a plan.

The process for development of a plan in an urban environment is very similar to that in a parished area but can be adapted to local circumstances.  We are currently developing plans with community groups in Popley; South Ham and Buckskin.  The maps below show progress across the borough, both in urban and rural areas, in development of community led plans.

Some communities across Hampshire got together to produce a DVD about their experiences in developing a community plan.  You can view the DVD below.

BDBC offers grant funding to community groups who want to develop a community plan for their area. You can download the application form below.

If you require any further information about community planning please contact the Community Planning Officer, on 01256 845485 or community.development@basingstoke.gov.uk for advice.
