Colleges and University

We have two main colleges in Basingstoke and Deane: Basingstoke College of Technology and Queen Mary’s College where you can study from GCSE to degree level.

University College Winchester is now also in the town offering Foundation degrees and much more.

Basingstoke College of Technology

BCOT logoBasingstoke College of Technology (BCOT) was built in 1948 to support the local engineering industry in Basingstoke. Apprentices from Thorneycroft would walk the tree-lined quarter mile to the College from the factory on Worting Road, where a supermarket is now located.

Now, nearly sixty years later, you will find a relevant course at the college for most occupations. BCOT now attracts over 10,000 people from the borough of Basingstoke and Deane every year onto its courses - from foundation to degree level in subjects as diverse as construction, catering, engineering, design, and management.

Queen Mary's College

QMC logoQueen Mary’s College is a large sixth form College located to the south of Basingstoke’s town centre. It provides over 100 courses for 16-19 and adult learners. These include a very full range of AS and A levels as well as work at GCSE and Foundation Level. We also offer full time vocational courses in IT, Sport, Drama and Music. The College has a particular commitment to making appropriate education and support available to any student who is prepared to work, regardless of their previous educational attainment.  Over 60% of our students go onto Higher Education.

The College has 2,100 full time daytime students who are predominantly 16 to 19. The 1,000 adult students mostly attend the College in the evening or take courses organised through our partner community schools.

The College was inspected in 2003 when it was reported to have a Grade 1 management and to be good in every Department. In 2004 it was officially branded an “excellent” College by the Learning and Skills Council.

Over the past 5 years the College has invested £9m in ensuring that its site and facilities provide for the needs of its learners.
