From Monday 3 October 2011 there will be changes to recycling and rubbish collections to give a better value service and encourage recycling. We will continue the weekly collection of rubbish (grey) bins but:
-
the amount we collect each week will be limited to one bin per household, and
-
all rubbish will need to fit into that one bin with no extra bags or sacks of rubbish, as in future we will not collect this extra waste.
If you have more than six people in your household and are recycling everything you can, or have specific needs that create extra waste, please contact us on 01256 844844.
Please do your bit for the environment and recycle all you can in your green bin, which is for tins, cans and aerosols, paper and cardboard and plastic bottles (no other plastics) – for more information see the recycling page.
If everyone put everything they could into their green bin the borough would be recycling over double the amount it is now. But if lots of things that can’t be recycled are put into green bins the whole load from several hundred houses can be wasted. So crews will carry out quick checks of green bins to make sure they contain only things that can be recycled. They will leave an information notice on a green bin if there are a few items that shouldn’t be in it.
If a recycling bin contains mainly non-recyclable items, it will not be emptied. The crew will leave an information notice on the green bin to let the resident know why it has not been emptied. When the non-recyclable items have been removed it will be emptied on the next round.
Download the leaflet below for more detail about the changes and what can and cannot be recycled.
