Recycling in Basingstoke and Deane is something everyone can do. The council provides a fortnightly kerbside collection for all residents using a green wheelie bin. If you live in a flat you will have a larger, shared recycling bin.

It's important that only the items which can be recycled are put into your recycling bin. Dealing with the wrong material is expensive and can sometimes lead to good material being sent for incineration. For information on what can and can't be put in your green recycling bin, take a look our page 'What can I put in my recycling bag or bin?'

Your recycling should be placed clean, dry and loose into your bin and not in a plastic carrier bag or black sack. This makes it easier to sort. We can provide you with a reusable bag to help you store your recycling at home, which is smaller than a second bin and easier to carry to your green bin. Please call 01256 844844.

Remember to put your bin out for collection by 7am on your collection day.

If you don't have a green recycling bin, or need a new one, please call 01256 844844 to order one.

Changes to the waste and recycling service

From 3 October 2011, the council introduced a number of changes to the waste and recycling service. These changes are detailed in the attached document, which was sent to every property in the borough in September 2011. The main changes are as follows:

  • Only one household waste bin will be emptied from each property each week
  • An additional waste bin can be emptied if households meet certain criteria
  • Excess waste, often referred to as 'side waste' will no longer be collected
