Kerbside glass recycling service

By the end of June 2012, the majority of households in the borough will have been provided with a plastic box so they can recycle their glass bottles and jars. All bottles and jars should be rinsed out and any corks or tops removed. The box should be placed next to the green recycling bin by 7am on their usual recycling collection day.

Items such as light bulbs, glass panes, lead crystal glass, glass ovenware and any non-glass items cannot be placed in the box. The glass collected is sent to a reprocessing plant, where it is colour sorted and then used to make new bottles and jars.

Residents living in flats, who share waste and recycling bins with their neighbours, will be issued with a communal bin for glass by the end of October 2012. Residents living in remote rural areas, who receive a weekly waste and recycling service, will be contacted shortly as changes will need to be made to their collections to accommodate the new kerbside glass collection service.
