Offer Makes Food Waste Easier To Digest
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is offering residents the opportunity to buy cut price Green Cone food waste digesters to help reduce the amount of rubbish we throw away.
Every year, Basingstoke and Deane residents throw away over 8,000 tonnes of food, most of which could have been eaten. However some food waste, such as meat, bones and plate scrapings will never be on the menu, so instead of putting this rubbish in your bin, you can now use a Green Cone!
The Green Cone is food waste digester which has its base buried in the soil and this is where all the work takes place to ‘digest’ the food waste through heat and harmless bacteria. It’s a natural process that relies on the heat from the sun, so the cone needs to be placed in a sunny spot in your garden.

Brita Filter Recycling
Recycling your old Brita water filters just became even easier with the launch of a new in-store recycling scheme. Special Brita recycling bins can now be found at high street shops such as Argos, Robert Dyas and Cargo. The bins can be found next to the water filter section in store and can take all Brita water filters including those for Brita jugs and the new water filter taps.
