Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council

The Cabinet and its meetings

standard view | overview of cabinet

Executive decisions are made in two ways:
  • either by the Leader and Cabinet collectively at a public meeting
  • or by a single Cabinet Member - where the decision is within the power of that person and after consultation has taken place with every other councillor.

Meetings of the Cabinet are open to the public and broadcast live on our website (web-cast). Members of the public and other councillors can attend these meetings, make representations to and ask questions of the Cabinet before decisions are made.

All decisions of individual Cabinet Members are reported to the next Cabinet meeting. All executive decisions are reported to the next meeting of the whole Council.

Each decision is preceded by a written report which is also open for inspection and comment before decisions are made . There are also access to information rights which entitle councillors and members of the public to see the background papers which the authors of the reports have relied upon when explaining the issues, producing options and recommending action.
