Telephone and Internet Registration during the Annual Canvass

2011 Canvass

Electoral registration forms will be delivered to every home in the Basingstoke and Deane Borough towards the end of August 2011. The information provided from this annual canvass of all the households will form the basis of the new Register of Electors, which will be published on 1 December 2011. As in previous years, residents of Basingstoke and Deane will be able to use a FREEPHONE ** or INTERNET service to confirm their electoral details.

This year, we will not be pre-printing the tick box for electors to opt out of the edited register.  This means that electors will need to tick the box for their registration to appear on the full register only.

Telephone

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is offering those households whose electoral details have remained unchanged, an easier way to confirm their registration. By simply dialling a FREEPHONE ** number 0800 197 4414, and then keying in the special two-part security code printed on the registration form, the caller is prompted to confirm the household details. Success of the telephone registration is confirmed with an advice of completion of the call. There is no need to return the form to the council; the voters within the household will be re-registered automatically.

The service is a fully automated touch tone system that will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the canvass period (August 2011 to 21 November 2011). By using the FREEPHONE ** service existing household registrations are immediate.  Re-registering could not be easier.

** Please note: some mobile phone providers may charge for the FREEPHONE service

Internet

We also provide an INTERNET service, and would encourage anybody who has internet access to confirm their details this way. The web site address is: www.registerbyinternet.com/basingstoke this service will only be available until 21/11/2011.

If any households have not received their 2011/2012 registration form by late September 2011 they should contact the Electoral Services Helpline on 01256 845355.
