Mayors Charity Appeal 2012/13

Each Mayor chooses charities to support with the proceeds of fundraising and donations during his or her year in office. These are the charities chosen by Cllr Biermann:

RadCan

Charity No 1140906

RadCan is a new charity that has recently been set up specifically to raise funds to provide a radiotherapy facility at the Basingstoke and North Hants Foundation Trust Hospital.

At this time if you live in the hospital’s catchment area and require radiotherapy you have to travel to Southampton or Guildford sometimes on a daily basis and for periods of up to six weeks.

For more information about RadCan they can be contacted via the Basingstoke Voluntary Services, The Orchard, White Hart Lane, Basingstoke, RG21 4AF or via email radcan44@yahoo.com.

Camrose Resource Centre

Charity No 1074604

The Camrose Resource Centre is a drop-in centre primarily provided for homeless and vulnerable people, although it is open to all.

The Centre opens on Tuesday and Thursday each week and offers its clients breakfast and a hot lunch, bath or shower, laundry facilities, games facilities (pool, table tennis, etc.), advice on housing, employments, drugs and alcohol issues, telephone and computer facilities to assist with job applications, etc. and training in a variety of topics, including catering, gardening, IT skills, art and adult literacy.

The motivation to open such a centre was initiated by representatives from a number of Basingstoke churches and it is now run as in collaboration with those churches and other local voluntary organisations under the day-to-day management of Trinity Winchester.

For more information about the Camrose Resource Centre they can be contacted at The Camrose Centre, 3 Vyne Road, Basingstoke, RG21 5NL or or via telephone 01256 352160.

Age Concern Hampshire – Basingstoke

Charity No 290874

Age Concern Hampshire – Basingstoke is a locally based charity supporting older people, their families and carers across Basingstoke and Deane and surrounding areas.

They work for all people over the age of 50 offering a wide range of services to help them make life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. Some of their services are provided free of charge, some are subsidised through Council Service Level Agreements whereby the client pays a contribution and other services are run on a not-for-profit basis. They ensure that any charges are kept to a minimum, are fair and are reviewed regularly.

The Basingstoke office is run as an entirely separate cost-centre and therefore the level of services provided in Basingstoke are very much dependant on funds secured through Service Level Agreements and fundraising activities.

For more information about Age Concern Hampshire – Basingstoke they can be contacted via the Basingstoke Voluntary Services, The Orchard, White Hart Lane, Basingstoke, RG21 4AF or via email info@ageconcernbasingstoke.org.uk.

Any additional funds raised from the Mayor’s charity appeal will be used to help fund small local initiatives.

The Mayor’s fundraising will be supported again this year by Barclays Corporate.
