Winter weather, especially snow and ice, may keep people in their homes. For some people this could turn quickly into an emergency and the council is urging residents to be good neighbours and help those who need it most. There may be someone in your street who will need some support when it snows, so please think about those who live around you and check that they are alright.
Two community centres are piloting a 'snow crisis line'. This scheme plans to link volunteers with someone in real need and the community centre's are looking for volunteers who may be able to do more than keep an eye out for their neighbours. If you live in the Whitchurch area and want to volunteer, contact the Gill Nethercott Centre in Whitchurch on 01256 896270 or in South Ham contact Westside Community Centre on 01256 464571..

The council is working with the Hampshire and Berkshire 4x4 Response Group, a voluntary service offering four-wheel drive logistical support during times of severe weather and other crisis. During bad snow, they can help to get urgent medical supplies out to people who can’t leave their homes. They can be contacted through the emergency services by ringing 999. If you would like to volunteer to join, see the response group's website.
