Facts and figures for Parishes

Parishes are the most local administrative areas in England and Wales.  In all they cover about 41% of the population of England and Wales.  There are areas that are not parished - mainly the main urban areas such as Basingstoke town.  There are 51 parishes in Basingstoke and Deane.

Basingstoke and Deane Parish data

Please note: until data from the 2011 Census starts to become available in stages from July 2012 onwards, the 2001 data remains the most recently published.

Parishes vary greatly in size - both in terms of area and population - and so a range of output is released from the Census, suitable for the different sizes.

Headcounts provide counts of all people, males, females and households in a parish.  They are produced for all parishes.  Headcount statistics can be found under "People" on this website.

Parish Profiles are designed to provide condensed summary results on a particular topic.  There are four Parish Profiles relating Accommodation and Tenure, Households, People and Work and Qualifications.  These are reproduced on this website.  Where the parish is below the threshold of 50 people and 20 households the results for that parish will be shown as "not available" or " . . ".  Statistics for the parishes of Popham and Weston Corbett are not available, therefore, in some of the data tables.

For the Parish Profiles, select from the four headings of "ACCOMMODATION AND TENURE", "HOUSEHOLDS", "PEOPLE" and "WORK AND QUALIFICATIONS".
