The council is currently working on a framework to guide future development in the borough up to 2026. Our Local Development Framework (LDF) will incorporate and replace the existing Local Plan but cover a much wider range of future issues. The first key document to be prepared for the LDF is the Core Strategy.
Update: Manydown Judicial Review (April 2012)
The council has received a Judgement from the High Court, in the case of the Manydown Company Limited v Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council which requires the council, within a reasonable timeframe to reconsider the form of the pre submission strategy in relation to the proposed allocated sites and locations for development. The decisions previously made by the council’s Cabinet on 23 January 2012 to re-affirm the council’s position in respect of the proposed allocated sites and locations for inclusion in the core strategy and to approve the pre-submission Core Strategy for consultation have been quashed by the Court. Progress to date
During the initial stages of developing the Core Strategy, in early 2008, an Issues and Options consultation was undertaken, to scope out what the key issues and options for the borough might be.
In summer 2009, the borough council consulted on a draft Vision for the borough - this vision has now been agreed and adopted and it will, amongst other things, inform the Core Strategy.
In spring 2010, a Key Themes consultation was undertaken, which gave members of the public the opportunity to consider the key issues facing the borough in the future. In addition, a series of Background Papers have been published to support the Key Themes document.
In autumn 2010, a New Homes consultation was undertaken, which gave members of the public the chance to express their views and aspirations for future housing provision in the borough. The results from this consultation have now been published.
