Rural Housing Study
The study was commissioned in 2009 in order to undertake an assessment of current and future demand for market housing and need for affordable housing in the rural area of the borough, to inform the development of future planning policy through the Local Development Framework and future local housing strategies.
The study has been undertaken in line with Government guidance on housing needs assessments, and the relevant requirements of the CLG Strategic Housing Market Assessment Practice Guidance (2007). The study consists of a household survey (representing the views of some 4000 households), a housing market survey and secondary data analysis (such as Housing Register data). The rural part of the borough was broken down into ten sub-areas in order to provide a more location specific assessment of housing across rural Basingstoke and Deane. The study sets out key findings and recommendations on issues including the housing market, demographic change, migration, future housing requirements, and black and ethnic minority needs.
