Landscape and rural guidance

The council has produced and adopted Supplementary Planning Guidance on a range of topics concerned with the landscape of the borough to help applicants, agents, designers, developers and council officers prepare and evaluate development proposals.  These adopted guidance documents are a material consideration when determining planning applications.  The Country Design Summary and Trees and Development are available to download below.  The Landscape AssessementLiving LandscapesRural Strategy and Tree Policy are available to view and download from the Natural Environment Section.

Countryside Design Summary

This explains in simple terms the essential design relationship between the borough's landscape, settlement patterns and buildings. It identifies distinct character areas and sets out design criteria for each of these, against which any future development proposals can be assessed. Trees and Development

Guidance for assessing the suitability of sites containing trees for development can be found in the council's Landscape and Biodiversity Supplementary Planning Document - available below.
