Noise and Light

Developers have been encouraged to utilise innovative building design and layout as the best means of achieving acceptable noise levels. In addition, a survey was undertaken in order to establish the impact of road noise from the A340, Popley Way and the ring-road to the south. The outcome of this survey, went some way to determining the measures that developers would need to provide to mitigate noise disturbance.

The existing developments at Popley and the Basingstoke Hospital immediately to the west both produced substantial amounts of artificial light. Previously little of this is carried over the natural ridgeline that separates Basingstoke from Sherborne St.John to the north. However, any additional artificial light, particularly street lighting, from the new development has been carefully selected to minimise light pollution.

The community infrastructure provision, such as the school sports facilities, utilises the most effective technology to minimise light pollution.
