The replacement of the existing School and the sale of the land on the John Hunt of Everest site aided the financing of the new replacement school, which also provides dual-use community, sports and leisure facilities for the wider development.
It is a comprehensive new community school with associated sports facilities, with capacity for 900 pupils on an approximate eleven acre site in the centre of the North of Popley Way site (Merton Rise).

The school buildings are located between Sherborne Road and Chineham Lane, facilitating the shared-use sports facilities situated between school-use only playing fields to the west and public playing fields to the east. This enables the minimal total land take-up and places the shared uses in the most accessible location.
In front of the school, is a ‘school-square’. This provides a breathing space for the community on the public side of the school building. The concept for this space was to:
- Bring together the various routes leading to the school.
- Provide an appropriate setting for the school building in a landscaped space.
- Provide an element of space between the school and nearby residential areas.
