Under Section 79 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, (as amended), councils have powers to deal with certain noise nuisances. These are deemed to be statutory noise nuisances. However, to enable the council to act, the noise must be coming from private land or property, or be generated by vehicles, machinery or equipment in the street. These powers apply not only in order to control existing noise, but also noise that is expected to occur or recur.

Diary sheets are available to download below. Once you register a complaint with us you will be assigned a case officer. Please email your completed record sheets to that officer if you have completed them electronically. Alternatively - should you wish to complete record sheets by hand - once you have registered your complaint you will be posted some sheets with a pre-paid envelope so that you can post them back in to us once they are completed (we would normally ask for them sheets to document a one to two week period).
