As part of the major Environmental Renewal Schemes initiative, the council has set aside a budget to tackle more urgent issues anywhere in the borough. Neighbourhood Improvement Schemes are those of a small scale in size and cost, but which make a big difference to the lives of local people.
This funding is open to the whole community, and anyone can apply for it.

Before applying, it would be beneficial for you to discuss any potential scheme with your local Ward Councillor and your local residents’ association or similar group. In order to qualify, the following conditions would need to be met:
1. Schemes need to deal with nuisance issues that affect the quality of life of residents; and
2. Schemes need to improve the quality of a local environment which is in need of renewal.

- renewed paved areas
- removal of overgrown shrubs
- new tree and shrub planting
- fencing, seating and bollards
- removal of tired and unnecessary walls and structures
Unfortunately it will not be possible to carry out traffic calming, street lighting and security lighting, ponds or water features as part of the scheme.
