The future of South View

The future of the council-owned land at the former allotments site and Vyne Road car park

What is happening?

The council held a consultation in 2010, to seek your views on different options for land the council owns on the former allotments site near Lyford Green and the Vyne Road car park.

These options are summarised in the South View Options leaflet below.

There were nearly 400 responses to the questionnaire, 64 signatures by way of a petition, and seven emails and letters. A wide range of views were expressed in the responses to the consultation exercise, the predominant ones being to keep Vyne Meadow Car Park as it is, and for the Former Allotments Site to become a Neighbourhood Park. A summary of the results of this consultation exercise is set out in the document below.

The future of South View

Following very careful consideration of the views expressed in the consultation, the council's Cabinet at its meeting on 27 July 2010 decided to keep Vyne Meadow Car Park as it is (Option 5 of the Options Leaflet), and for the Former Allotments Site to be developed as a mix of houses (perhaps 30-40 in number) and a park (Option 4 of the Options Leaflet). The latter involves extending the existing open space at Lyford Green which will create a larger and enhanced park.

When any proposals for houses and recreational facilities are brought forward, these will be subject to further public consultation.
