Housing Advice and Homelessness Prevention

The council can offer advice to residents in the borough who are at risk of homelessness. This includes help on tenancy matters, mortgage rescue, debt counselling, mediation, private sector renting, nominations and information about housing associations.

Accessing social housing through the Housing Register

The council provides a common housing register for all local housing associations acting as a focal point for new applicants and existing tenants seeking alternative accommodation.

Providing affordable housing for local people

The borough council has a long history of enabling the development of new and improved housing services, working in partnership with local housing associations and other partners to provide affordable housing for local families.

The council works to improve the quality of life through investment in housing, leisure and community facilities and by providing safe communities to live in.

Providing new homes

The council has exceeded its annual target of 300 new build affordable homes per annum. For the last three years the council with its housing association partners has delivered in excess of 420 new affordable homes per annum. Given the decline in the housing market and reductions / changes in public funding this average level of affordable housing can be expected to fall unless other measure can be put in place.  These figures will be reviewed post April 2012.

The HARAH Partnership (Hampshire Alliance for Rural Affordable Housing)

HARAH was set up to make a difference to the provision of affordable housing in the villages of Hampshire. The Partnership involves several local authorities across Hampshire and was set up to speed up the process of delivering rural housing, and to increase the amount of funding available in the county.

There are several rural schemes in discussion within the borough with schemes at Headley, Preston Candover, Charter Alley and Upton Grey.
