Applicants on the housing register are awarded points and placed in bands according their situations. The bands and the points are listed in the table below.
| Band 1 |
Critical |
| Band 2 |
50 Plus point |
| Band 3 |
30 and 40 points |
| Band 4 |
10 and 20 points |
| Band 5 |
no points |
Within each band, applicants are sorted according to the initial date that they joined the housing register, with those who have waited the longest at the top of each band.
If your circumstances change for any reason and you receive or lose additional points you will be placed at the bottom of a different band.
If there is a change of circumstances within your housing situation you must complete a ‘Tell us something new’ form. If you move properties and wish to remain on the register you must complete a housing needs registration form.
Points are allocated depending on different categories of housing need. These are explained in the following pages.
Housing need categories within the new points system
These are the categories of housing need:
- overcrowding
- roofless or ‘sofa surfing’
- transfers
- shared accommodation
- threatened with homelessness
- welfare or social reasons
- medical or physical disability reasons
- mental health reasons
- leaving tied accommodation (including armed forces personnel)
- unsuitable accommodation
- accepted homeless
Additional priority (10 points) is awarded for having a local connection with the borough.
Each category has a clear definition which will help you decide which ones apply to your situation. You will be awarded 10 points for each category that Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council agrees applies to your application.
Once this has been agreed, your application will be placed into the correct band.
