Building cycling into your everyday lives can be an excellent way of travelling to work, school or to the shops. While in Basingstoke we are developing a network of routes across the urban area, there are also a number of on and off road leisure routes in more rural areas promoted by other organisations. Many of these link into the urban network so that you don't need to travel by car to access the countryside. By visiting gps routes.co.uk or transportdirect (click on 'find a cycle route') you can obtain details of more routes in Hampshire and other counties.
In April 2006, a new section of the National Cycle Network (NCN) in the Borough was officially opened, extending south from Eastrop Park in Basingstoke town centre, to Alton and New Alresford. This joins up with the existing NCN route in the Borough which links Basingstoke with Reading.
There are also a number of local cycling organisations in and around Basingstoke aimed at different abilities and groups. For more information please contact these clubs direct:-
CTC North Hampshire
Cycle Club Basingstoke
North Hampshire Road Club
The Tandem Club of the UK ("Thameswey" - Guildford & Reading)
