Parking permits and season tickets

On-street and off-street parking

Definitions are as follows:

  • on-street parking is on public highway (any road other than private roads)
  • off-street parking is in public car parks.

Residents' and visitors' permits

The council is responsible for the implementation and administration of 15 residents' on-street parking schemes in the borough.  Residents can apply for a parking permit which will provide them with on-street parking in the roads covered by the scheme relevant to their home address.

There is an annual fee for residents' permits, but visitors’ permits are free.  Details of these and how to apply are included in our information sheet, which is sent with the application form. For your application to be successful, you must provide valid proof of your address and vehicle ownership before a permit can be issued.

Residents' and visitors' parking permits expire annually and reminder letters are sent to all residents approximately two weeks before expiry.

To renew your permit, you will need to send payment and provide proof of residence, either a copy of your current council tax bill, your tenancy agreement, or a recent utility bill, showing your name and address. A permit cannot be renewed without the required documents.
NOTE:  Bank statements and mobile phone statements will not be accepted as a valid proof of residence.

If you change your vehicle at any time, you need to return your residents' permit with the old registration number on it and provide proof of possession of the new vehicle, such as the vehicle registration document, the motor insurance document or, if it is a company vehicle, a letter from your employer. These should be photocopies as they will not be returned to you.
