Safer Food, Better Business (SFBB)

From January 1st 2006, all food businesses must have a fully documented food safety management system. This means that you will have to decide what it is that you do to produce food that is safe, and have this written down. What's more, your system will have to be based on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point principles, and you will be expected to follow it.

Whilst larger businesses will have these systems in place, many smaller businesses won't. That is why the Food Standards Agency have produced Safer Food Better Business (SFBB) for small caterers. The SFBB pack contains a series of easy to understand safe methods for Cooking, Chilling, Cleaning, Cross Contamination and Management for small caterers. It is designed to be easily tailored to your business, and can be implemented in a relatively short period of time. What's more

IT'S FREE!

Basingstoke and Deane have recently won funding from the Food Standards Agency to begin introducing SFBB into our local businesses now. If you haven't got a documented food safety system and haven't heard from us so far, it is likely that you will in the near future. Watch this space!

Meanwhile, if you wish to get ahead of the game, the pack and further information is available free of charge from the Food Standards Agency using the Related Link on the left side of this page.

There are also some useful questions and answers on SFBB within are recent "FoodNews" newsletter, which can be downloaded using the link below:
