Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council require all stretch Limousines with 8 or less seats that carry out private hire work to be fully licensed as private hire vehicles. If a vehicle is only providing transport for weddings they are exempt from the requirement to be licensed. Any other work such as proms, hen nights, parties etc is classed as private hire and as such, vehicles and drivers must be licensed as well as the operator’s address where the bookings are processed.
If you are considering purchasing a stretch limousine for carrying passengers please talk to the licensing team who can give you advice on the licensing requirements.
If you are a parent thinking of hiring a limousine for your child’s school prom or a prospective hirer of a limousine for any other reason, always ask if the company, vehicles and drivers are properly licensed by the Council and ask to see the licences. That way you can be sure the vehicle is fully safety tested and that the drivers have undergone the strict vetting procedures including police checks and medical examinations to ensure they are fit and proper to carry passengers of all ages.
If you are unsure about a company, contact the licensing team who can confirm whether a company is properly licensed.
