Implementing Electronic Government Statement (IEG)

The way that Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council is run and delivers its services was assessed as 'Excellent' by the Audit Commission Comprehensive Performance Assessment announced in 2004. The following statement from the Audit Commission report highlights our approach:

“The council has long-term robust aims for electronic delivery of its services, with a clear direction of how to achieve them. It is using the Implementing Electronic Government statement as an opportunity to deliver cultural change and service delivery via a one-stop approach – the one-stop shop is already dealing with many council services. Improvements have so far shown that these aims are realistic and deliverable ".

Our e-government vision for our citizens remains as stated in our original IEG Statement …..“we want our e-government programme to make a difference to the lives of all residents by ensuring that:

  • services, staff, and information are easily accessible to the whole community any time, any place, any where;
  • our decision-making is transparent; we have a seamless approach to all public services;
  • that there is a choice of access channels
  • that suits the lifestyles of individual customers. It is important that, to avoid social exclusion, facilities are provided throughout the community, and traditional methods of contact with the Council are maintained and enhanced”.

Below is the Councils latest and final IEG Statement for 2006. This was submitted to the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister on Monday 10th April 2006 and completes the Implementing Electronic Government process, as we know it.

Our Statement is designed to detail the Councils progress to date  including our performance against the Best Value Perfromance Indicator (BVPI) Number 157 (target of 100% of all services delivered electronically by December 2005) our final attainment was  98.5% and 92.5%  achievement in meeting the governments Priority Service Outcomes. Our current status as at 1st August 2006 is over 99%.

Also below is the Councils Public Trust Charter which sets out the standards of service that you can expect from your Council when handling personal information electronically.
