Delivering Member Services and more...
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council continues to make significant progress in its e-government programme including its support of elected members. Part of our e-government vision is to make a difference to the role of councillors, to ensure that services, staff, and information are easily accessible to them and to ensure that the decision making process is accessible and transparent. To support this aim the Council have implemented a range of e-government initiatives for members, residents and communities and shared their experiences and expertise at a recent e-government Showcase event held on Tuesday 24th January 2006 at the Council Offices.
The Showcase came about as a direct response from colleagues across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight who are interested in exploring e-government solutions to support the role of councillors. Attendees included partners across the County, the South East Region and more locally our Local Strategic Partners.
The Showcase consisted of a number of presentations from members including the Councils Leader, Councillor Paul Harvey, supported by the Deputy Leader, Councillor Brian Gurden on our vision and strategy, our Cabinet Member for Communities and Regeneration, Councillor Sean Keating demonstrating how electronic services have supported the delivery of the Councils Greed Garden Waste service. The delivery of council websites was supported by the Councillor.info project Manager and two councillors - Councillor Horace Mitchell and Councillor Andy McCormick demonstrated and discussed issues around maintaining a councillors website.
