Legal and Democratic Services

Legal Services is the council's in-house firm of solicitors, providing legal advice on a wide range of topics to the council, it's officers and councillors.

Through doing this our aim is to help:

• deliver the Council Plan
• our colleagues meet their objectives
• protect all the council's resources 

We are sorry but we cannot provide legal advice/services to members of the general public.

We have provided in our Frequently Asked Questions (Legal FAQs) section the facility to submit a question. Although we cannot advise specifically on individual cases, we will post up answers to those questions that are of general interest.

Finally, we are permitted to provide legal advice/services to public bodies such as housing associations, other councils, etc. but unfortunately we have no capacity to do this at present. Should this change, we will highlight the fact here.

Democratic Services provide a high quality, sustainable and publicly available committee administration service to the Council, its Members and the Committees upon which they serve.
