Food Safety Act 1990

In August 2005 Mrs Townsend, proprietor of Hanworth@Bramley Dene Residential Home  pleaded guilty to 7 offences against Regulations made under the Food Safety Act 1990.

Environmental Health officers had visited the home in response to a complaint by Basingstoke Social Services. The officers discovered an outside food storage shed in a dirty and damp state, with an active rodent infestation. Mice had gained access to frozen food storage due to the poor repair of the shed and mouse droppings were found amongst the stored food. A large quantity of out of date food was present and most of this was disposed of on site. Some of this food dated back to 2002. The storage area was subsequently closed voluntarily.

Mrs Townsend was fined £5500 for the offences and ordered to pay the prosecution costs of £626.10.
