The Mayor and Mayoress Cllr & Mrs George Hood and Mrs Betty Holmes MBE, Freeman of the borough of Basingstoke and Deane paid a visit to the War Memorial Park on Monday 9 June 2008 along with past Mayor of Basingstoke and Deane Warwick Lovegrove, previous CX Gordon Holdcroft, Nicola Williams Arboricultural Officer at Basingstoke and Deane and Mrs Sheila Knight.
Mrs Holmes was checking on the progress of the Golden Hornet Apple tree in the War Memorial Park that had been planted by the past Mayor, Warwick Lovegrove and previous CX Gordon Holdcroft, in honour of her 90th birthday in October 2007.
