Community Safety

The 1998 Crime and Disorder Act places a statutory duty on the Council and Police to work with other agencies to form a Crime and Reduction Partnership and operate jointly to reduce crime and disorder. This is delivered through the Basingstoke and Deane Community Safety Forum, whose purpose is to formulate and develop the Community Safety Strategy.

The objectives of the Best Value Review were to assess whether the Community Safety Strategy was reducing the fear and level of crime in the Borough;  to identify improvements that would ensure that the Strategy could meet the needs and expectations of the community; to consider how action is facilitated at a local level; identify ways of engaging the community; and identify the resources needed to meet the key issues and priorities.

The Review received Cabinet approval in May 2003. It has not been inspected by the Audit Commission. You can see the full outcome report by clicking on the link below.

As a result of the review, an improvement plan was produced. We have now changed our approach and any outstanding actions have been included in the 3-year service plan for the Business Unit.
The document below shows which actions have been completed, which are no longer relevant and which have been transferred to the service plan.
