The views of our residents are important to us and help to provide focus for our service delivery. They give us valuable information to help shape our priorities and identify areas for improvement. Every three years the Government requires us to carry out a survey to find out what is important to you, and how satisfied you are with our services. The latest survey was carried out in the autumn of 2006, and involved a postal survey to which 1,259 local residents replied.
A summary of the findings is shown below. The Government has published results for other district councils, which shows that our performance is above average:

84% of residents feel that Basingstoke and Deane is a good place to live, offering a high quality of life. They feel the most important things are low crime levels, health services, affordable decent houses, clean streets, and education. |

Overall there was a good level of satisfaction (64%) with the services provided by the Council. |

74% of residents feel that services have improved or remained consistent in the last three years with recycling services improving most. |

88% were satisfied with the weekly waste collection service. |

76% were happy with local recycling facilities. |

Satisfaction with street cleanliness is 75%. |

74% of users of sports, leisure, culture and parks facilities were satisfied with the service provided. |

63% of residents were happy with the way they accessed Council services, with 76% of those who had contacted us happy with the way their enquiry was dealt with. |

37% of those who had made a complaint were satisfied with the way it was handled - this is an area we are exploring as part of a wider review of customer service. |
We will conduct the survey again later this year and will use the results to ensure continued improvement in performance.
