Abandoned Vehicles

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council aim to investigate all reports of abandoned vehicles within twenty-four hours. 

We have purchased our own specialist transporter, to speed up the removal process. Our aim is to remove unclaimed vehicles as soon as possible,  

To report an abandoned vehicle, please contact the Council on (01256) 844844, giving the following details. 

  • Registration number, make and model
  • Colour
  • Location (street name and nearest house number, or other landmark)
  • Date shown on tax disc.

Any information about who abandoned the vehicle would be very welcome.

Please note that vehicles subject to arson are scenes of crime, and should be reported to the police.

Reporting unlicensed vehicles on the highway

If you wish to report a vehicle that appears to be unlicensed, and on a public road, the details can be sent in writing to:

DVLA Local Office, 77-81 Basingstoke Road Reading RG2 OER.

Alternatively you can phone the DVLA Vehicle Customer Enquiry Line - Tel 0300 790 6802

Or report it online at www.direct.gov.uk/untaxedvehicle

The details must include the above information and wherever possible the time the vehicle can be seen on the public road and, if known, the name and address of the owner.

The information provided can then be used for further investigations by  an inquiry officer who will make a formal sighting of the vehicle and complete a witness statement.

Free Collection and Disposal Service

The Council will collect and dispose of unwanted vehicles from its residents free of charge.

Please phone 01256 844844 and you will be sent an application form. Upon receipt of the form and your DVLA registration document we will arrange for the collection and disposal of your vehicle, within three working days, and advise the DVLA of its destruction.

BASINGSTOKE AND DEANE BOROUGH COUNCIL RESERVES THE RIGHT TO WITHDRAW THE OFFER OF THE FREE REMOVAL SERVICE AT ANY TIME AND WITHOUT NOTICE



Enforcement Policy
