In common with many other areas of the country Basingstoke and Deane as a borough has experienced a significant amount of vandalism and criminal damage in the form of graffiti. We have a very good record of apprehending people who commit these antisocial acts. Working closely with the Police, local residents and British Transport Police we were the first in the country to secure convictions for conspiracy to commit criminal damage.

The cost of removing graffiti falls upon the owner of the property or structure which has been defaced. On hard surfaces such as road signs and play equipment, graffiti can be effectively removed using cloth 'wipes' impregnated with chemicals. Porous materials such as brick walls are more difficult to deal with and we usually need to use a range of chemicals and a high pressure washer to clean it off. Painting out graffiti is often the best option on rendered surfaces. Despite our best efforts there may remain a 'ghost' or 'shadow' of the original mark on occasions.
We are committed to combatting this antisocial behaviour but need your help. If you notice graffiti or see people doing it, please ring our Customer Contact Centre on (01256) 844844, or complete our online form.
If you would like to send a photograph of graffiti to be removed please send it, as an attachment, to info@basingstoke.gov.uk including your name, contact details and location of the incident.
