Trees and Development

The council’s tree service is required to
comment, and issue advice, on arboricultural matters on borough planning applications where trees may be affected. By considering trees from the start, we can ensure they exist in harmony with the development. The council requires all trees affected by the development to be included as part of the detailed planning application.

The ‘Trees and Development’ document was produced by the council as guidance, in accordance with the British Standard BS5837. When submitting applications you should consider both these documents to ensure trees are considered before, during and post construction.

If the required supporting arboricultural information is not produced in conjunction with the revised BS5837 (2005), the processing of your application may be delayed or, in some circumstances, refused.

The supplementary planning document is currently available for consultation.
