As an alternative to burning fossil fuels, which contribute towards global warming,
energy from the sun and wind can be harnessed to provide hot water for heating and washing and also to provide electricity.
On 1 April 2006, the Government introduced the Low Carbon Buildings Programme. The programme will provide grants for microgeneration technologies for householders, community organisations, schools, the public sector and businesses.
