The Green Flag Award

GREEN FLAG

The Green Flag Award is the national standard for parks and green Green Flag Logo
spaces in England and Wales and both recognises and rewards the
best green spaces in the country. Winning a Green Flag Award brings excellent publicity especially since both the media and the public are becoming increasingly aware that a site flying a Green Flag is a high quality green space.

Green Flag 2010

On 9 June colleagues from Milton Keynes Council and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) visited Eastrop and War memorial Park in their capacity as Green Flag judges.  The weather was reasonable thoough not as sunny as we had hoped, which was a little disappointing as we wanted the judges to see first hand how popular the parks are in the nice weather.  Despite this we were able to spend some time showing off the parks' assets...which the judges seemed to enjoy.

The judges got the chance to meet some of our regular park users who explained what it was that they likGreen Flag judges talking to park userse about the parks and why each suited their specific needs.  This included Mario and family who operate the boathouse cafe and representatives fo the local Guiding Association, Basingstoke Model Boat Club, Thorneycroft Society, Park Run and Basingstoke Dog Training Club not forgetting of course competition skater James Ivett.  Thanks to them all for taking time to support us in our application and especially to Mario who supplied us with refreshments in the morning!

Results are out in late July, so fingers crossed.....and watch this space!

2010 Results are in!

We are proud to announce that Eastrop Park and War Memorial Park have both been awarded Green flag status again.  The news was celebrated by the Mayor raising the flag at War Memorial Park during an official ceremony on Wed 28th July, with parks supporters and staff in attendance.

The Mayor told the press that 'The Green Flag shows that our parks are high on our agenda by ensuring a high standard of maintenance.  It shows how we can work together with people who want to support the parks in the town'

THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE INVOLVED!
