South East Plan

Background

The emerging South East Plan, the Regional Spatial Strategy for the region, will be adopted by the Govenrment early in 2009.  It considers towns, cities and the countryside and will set out how demand for new housing and economic growth will be met up to 2026.

Consultation drafts of the South East Plan were published in 2005 and 2006 and a copy of the Borough Council's response to the 2006 consultation is available to download below.

All of the comments received were considered by a 'Panel' who invited participants to discuss their views at an Examination in Public, which was held during the period November 2006 to March 2007.

In August 2007, the Panel published their report, setting out how they consider the draft should be modified by the Secretary of State (along with all the other representations made on the draft South East Plan). The Panel's Report can be viewed by clicking here.  This will direct you to the website of the Government Office for the South East (GOSE). (Note that the panel report is a substantial document which may take some to download)

The Secretary of State's Proposed Changes to the draft South East Plan were published on 17 July for a period of public consultation.  These changes can be viewed by clicking here, which will take you to the GOSE website.  GOSE are now considering all the comments on the Proposed Changes, and it is expected that the final South East Plan will be adopted and publihsed early in 2009.

The Borough Council formally responded to the Proposed Changes to the draft South East Plan, with Councillors considering the response via the Environment Overview Committee on 11 September, followed by Cabinet on 30 October and then full Council on 9 October.  The Council's final response is available to download below.

A copy of the panel's report is also available for viewing at Parklands Reception of the Borough Council offices.
