Adopted Local Plan

The Borough Council adopted the Local Plan 1996 - 2011 on 17 July 2006, and this now forms part of the development plan for the Borough. All of the policies in the Adopted Local Plan have been 'saved' for three years from the date of the plan's adoption. These policies therefore remain valid for the purposes of determining planning applications.  The Borough Council will examine the scope for saving these policies beyond the three year period during the course of 2008/9.

A copy of the text of the Adopted Local Plan is available to download below in a PDF format. The Inset Maps can be viewed by either clicking here or using the option on the left hand side of this screen.

Hard copies of the Adopted Local Plan are available for viewing at all libraries in the Borough and at Parklands Reception.  In addition, copies can be purchased at a cost of £40 (plus £5 postage) by contacting a member of the Forward Planning Team on (01256) 845532 or 845796

PPS3 - Changes to the Affordable Housing Thresholds

Following the publication of PPS3: Housing by the Government in December 2006, the threshold for seeking the inclusion of affordable housing on sites in Basingstoke Town has been reduced from 25 dwellings as set out in policy C2 of the Adopted Local Plan to 15 dwellings.  A short guidance note has been prepared to explain this in more detail, and is available to download by clicking here, or by using the attachment at the bottom of this page.

In addition to the Adopted Local Plan Review, the Borough Council has a number of Supplementary Planning Documents that are currently being prepared.  Please click here for further details or use the SPD option on the left hand side of the screen.

Furthermore, the Borough Council has commenced work on the preparation of its Local Development Framework, and has produced a Local Development Scheme to detail the documents that it intends to produce. This can be viewed by clicking here, or using the 'Future Proposals / LDS' option in the menu on the left hand side of the screen.

Should you be considering making a planning application, it is worthwhile noting that the Borough Council recommends the undertaking of pre-application discussions. Advice on how you can go about this is available by clicking here.

Finally, account needs to be taken of the Hampshire County Structure Plan, in addition to the Local Plan. The Structure Plan covers the County of Hampshire and can be found by clicking here.
