Landscape and Biodiversity SPD

The council has produced a draft Supplementary Planning Document to support a number of policies in the Basingstoke and Deane Local Plan 1996-2011, including E1, E3, E5, E6, E7 and E8. The main aims of the guidance are to:

· ensure that new developments respect the character of the local landscape, successfully incorporate features of landscape importance and, where appropriate, include the creation of a high-quality functional landscape within the sites;

· ensure that new developments avoid causing harm to important wildlife habitats and species that are under threat; and

· encourage the incorporation of features into new developments to sustain and enhance wildlife.

The draft document, along with a draft sustainability appraisal, is being consulted on for a period of six weeks, from 13 December 2007 to 24 January 2008. Comments must be received before 5pm on the last day.

A Public Consultation Statement of Compliance is also available, which sets out the full consultation procedures that apply to this SPD, as well as details of comments received, and the council’s responses to them, following an initial consultation undertaken between 5 January and 16 February 2007.
