Concessionary Fares Scheme

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council offer a National Bus Pass to residents aged over 60 years or residents who meet the disability criteria in line with the Concessionary Bus Travel Act 2007.  The National Bus Pass entitles holders to free bus travel on local services within England only between the hours of 9:30am and 11pm.  This does not however include coach services.  We have enhanced  the bus pass above the minimum requirement, entitling the holder to make journeys on scheduled bus services within the borough at any time of the day.

We also offer an alternative option of Travel Tokens instead of the national bus pass.  This is above and beyond the minimum concession and is defined in the Transport Act 1985, which allows the local authority the option to offer a choice.  Travel Tokens may be used on buses, trains, community transport, taxis and shopmobility within the borough.  The travel tokens terms and conditions leaflet is available online.

The base value of tokens for 2008-09 is £53, with an additional £19 being available to those residents who meet the disability criteria or are aged 60 and over who are in receipt of council tax or housing benefit.  The same supplement of £19 is now available to all residents age 75 or over who selected the Travel Tokens instead of the Bus Pass.

The above concessions are renewed on an annual basis during the months of January to March, but can be claimed (pro-rata) throughout the year if missed.

The value of tokens issued decrease every quarter and this will depend on the time of year you make your claim.

The concessions are valid from the 1st April 2008 to the 31st March 2009 and cannot be used prior to the start date or after their expiry date.
