Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council offers a national bus pass to residents aged over 60 years or who meet the disability criteria in line with the Concessionary Bus Travel Act 2007.
The national bus pass entitles holders to free bus travel on local services anywhere in England between the hours of 9:30am and 11pm Monday to Friday and at any time on weekends or bank holidays. This does not, however, include coach services.
For Basingstoke and Deane residents we have enhanced the bus pass entitling the holder to make journeys on scheduled bus services within the borough at any time of the day. Visitors to the borough will be able to travel free at the national scheme times only.
As an alternative we are able to offer travel tokens instead of the national bus pass. Travel tokens may be used on buses, trains, community transport, Dial a Ride, taxis and shopmobility within the borough. The travel tokens terms and conditions leaflet is available online.
The base value of tokens for 2009-10 is £53, with an additional £21 being available to those residents who meet the disability criteria or are aged 60 and over and who are in receipt of council tax or housing benefit. The same supplement of £21 is now available to all residents age 75 or over who select travel tokens instead of the bus pass.
Travel tokens are renewed on an annual basis during the months of January to March, but can be claimed (pro-rata) throughout the year if missed.
The value of tokens issued decreases every quarter and this will depend on the time of year you make your claim.
The current issue of tokens is valid from the 1st April 2009 to the 31st March 2010 and cannot be used prior to the start date or after their expiry date.
* The pass can be used through mainland England and on the Isle of Wight and Isles of Scilly. The pass cannot be used in Wales or Scotland or on the Isle of Man or Channel Islands
