Cango

Cango is a Demand Responsive Transport service:

Cango BusCango services are unlike conventional bus services, which operate along fixed routes. They are more flexible, travelling where they are needed within their area of operation or ‘roam zone’ within set times.  Any member of the public inside the operating area can use Cango, which operates as a public bus service.  However, it is necessary to book journeys in advance.

There are three sets of Cango services in the borough:

  • ‘Roam zones’ in the west around St Mary Bourne and Stoke area linking to Andover
  • Two 'roam zones' in the north around Burghclere and Ecchinswell, and Woolton Hill and Woodhay linking to Newbury
  • Services around Greywell and Warnborough linking to both Basingstoke and Alton.

Services run Monday to Saturday (excluding Bank Holidays).

Cango is designed to provide residents living in rural areas with a bus service to their local main town.  It is aimed at those persons who do not have access to, or prefer not to use a car.

New look bus stopping points have been installed and fall into two categories - ‘timed’ or ‘bookable’.  The service will always call at the ‘timed’ points, although it is still advisable to call to reserve a seat.  ‘Bookable’ stops will only be served upon request.  Passengers can also arrange to have their own local stopping points, such as their local pub, garage or shop.  People who have mobility problems can be collected from home.  The new vehicles are wheelchair accessible, have seat belts, and are air-conditioned.
