The North Wessex Downs AONB is one of the larger AONB’s in the country, covering an area of about 670 square miles of which about 80 square miles is within Basingstoke and Deane.
The Council is working in partnership with
the 10 other council’s that have this AONB within their area as well as with many specialist interest groups/bodies such as Natural England and the Ramblers’ Association in order to achieve a consistent approach to a long-term vision, policies and actions for the whole of the AONB. This has been set out in a comprehensive Management Plan for the area – this has been adopted as Council policy. A revised Management Plan is due to be adopted in September 2009.
