Maintenance of footways
The maintenance of footways within the Borough is the responsibility of Hampshire County Council's Highways team. A local highway team is based at the Borough Council's offices and is supported by county council staff from the Highways Depot at Hook and The Castle in Winchester.
If you spot a fault or something on the highway that requires repair; please notify Hampshire County Council's Highways team by completing their online form www.hants.gov.uk/roads. Alternatively, you can contact the team by telephone on 0845 603 5633 or you can write to:

If you spot a fault outside of normal office hours which requires urgent attention, please telephone
(01256) 844844. You will be connected to a staffed out of hours answering service, however if your call cannot be taken please leave details of the fault along with your contact details on the answerphone so that appropriate action can be taken.
New footways
The Borough Council makes funds available for the provision of new footways up to the value of £15,000.
The Council has adopted assessment criteria for prioritising requests for new footways, which places an emphasis on encouraging the use of alternative modes of transport and to provide footway links with local amenities (i.e. shops, schools and bus stops). New requests are investigated using the approved criteria and added to the rolling programme for implementation as funding becomes available.
Detailes of schemes which exceed £15,000 in value are passed to Hampshire County Council for consideration as part of their highway maintenence programme.
